Cops Shoot Man With Knife By Newburgh-Beacon Bridge

A man wielding a large knife was shot by police during a confrontation on I-84 near Route 9D in Chelsea late Thursday afternoon.

According to midhudsonnews.com, the man was running across the  lanes of the highway while carrying the knife. He was chased by police, who ordered him to drop the weapon, according to an eye witness.

I-84 in both directions at Route 9W, exit 10, to Route 9D, exit 11, are shut down as police investigate.

Update: The Times Herald Record reports the suspect was shot to death by Beacon Police.   Drivers traveling on 9D through Beacon are being allowed to cross the bridge going west.  Police activity will continue until the end of the night.
