A company in Colorado is working with rabbis in New York as they plan to start selling legal edible marijuana products that are certified kosher. Reported by the NY Post, If these edible marijuana edibles are made available, it would be under state law, under a program that should be in effect next year.

Rabbi Moshe Elefant of the Orthodox Union, who runs a kosher certification program was approached by a firm that operates many marijuana factories in Colorado. Reps from the company flew to New York to talk about kosher supervision if they are selected to grow, manufacture, and distribute state-approved medical marijuana, which falls under the Compassionate Care Act signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo last year.

According to the NY Post, Rabbi Elefant, who has no experience with marijuana said:

They know there are patients who are Jewish and follow the kosher dietary laws. We found it fascinating actually, and we believe there’s room for this in the world of kosher certification.

The act allows people to get the marijuana but prevents them from lighting up.
