An arrest has been made in connection to the suspicious barn fire that took place in April.

On April 20th, 2017, State Police responded to a report of a fire on State Route 9 in Livingston. Columbia County 911 dispatched the Livingston Fire district, to the scene of the fully involved barn fire.

The State Police and Fire district investigated the suspicious barn fire, and sent a plea to the public through local media requested assistance from any witnesses in the area. This public request generated numerous leads which ultimately led to the arrest of the defendant.

Matthew P. Sackett, 19 years old, of Hudson, New York was arrested and charged with Arson fourth-degree, a Class E Felony.

Partnered with the Hudson Police Department, State Police continued the investigation, which indicated that Sackett had started the fire that consumed the vacant barn.

Sackett was arraigned in the Town of Livingston Court and remanded to Columbia County Jail without bail.

The Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka, the Hudson Police Department, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s Office, all assisted with the above investigation.
