I love taking a look back at some our history here in the Hudson Valley. Today, I focus on the Catskills and specifically Sullivan County. Remember that area was heavy with resorts during the 1960s and 1970s and even into the 1980s. Dirty Dancing was based on a resort in Sullivan County.

Anyway, take a look at this old commercial for Charles and Lillian Brown’s Hotel. They were located in Loch Sheldrake, New York. You’ll see it advertising tennis, disco, pool, nightclub and more.

In the comments section of the YouTube video, about six years ago, the place burned during a bad fire. Another comment about three years ago says its all burned down.

In the commercial, there is mention of the Jerry Lewis Disco.  In the comments, there is talk of Jerry Lewis growing up the Brown family. Some say, he would visit there often. Others say he went to the other Brown Hotels in New Jersey.

Faith said her family would go there for two weeks during the summer and it cost about $500 during the 1960s. She said it was fun, everything was included, also that Mr. and Mrs. Brown were very friendly.
