When you plan a trip to or thru New Jersey you most likely stop for gas because, up until now it's way cheaper than it is in New York.

It looks like that is all going to change soon.

According to the New Jersey 101.5, the New Jersey Assembly passed legislation on Tuesday to approve a 23 cent hike in the gasoline tax. The tax hike will be used to help pay for road and bridge work. It looks like the bill is expected to pass in the state Senate and will likely be signed by Governor Chris Christie this Friday.

If the bill does pass it would raise New Jersey's gas tax, as we all start one of the biggest travel weekends as AAA projects 43 million Americans will travel this July 4, from among the lowest in the nation to among the highest.

On the positive side of the gas tax hike, there would also be a decrease in New Jersey's state sales tax from 7 percent to 6 percent that would go into effect over the next 18 months.
