Central Hudson Gas & Electric is considering using drones for their operation, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. The company has said that aerial drones could help assess its infrastructure, such as inspecting utility structures and analyze damaged wires and poles. Spokesman John Maserjian told the Poughkeepsie Journal, "We do see potential in enabling crews and engineers to quickly and efficiently identify trouble spots along poles and lines, particularly in off-road locations."

Central Hudson would use a DJI Phantom 2, which is a four-propeller device weighing about 2.2 pounds and a maximum speed of more than 30 miles per hour. The FAA is currently writing regulations governing the use of unmanned aircraft for commercial purposes.
