The first cases of Enterovirus D68 are starting to show up in the Hudson Valley, as well as other parts of New York state. A Greenville School District student was recently diagnosed. According to reports, the district sent a letter to parents saying that the Scott M. Ellis Elementary School's Health Office received a call that afternoon that a student had been diagnosed with the rare respiratory virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed over 140 cases nationwide in 16 states...including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Most cases were initially concentrated in the American South and Midwest, but now have spread to the East Coast. The illness is caused by HEV68 and is similar to a cold at first. Symptoms can worsen though, and may include fever, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, blisters in the mouth, as well as body and muscle aches, and irritable rash. The illness generally targets children.

In state (NY) cases have been reported with kids living in Long Island and New York City, the Capitol Region, as well as Westchester, Greene and Onondaga Counties.
