Commuter alert! A bridge project set to begin next month will cause a major detour for Hudson Valley commuters.

The State Department of Transportation has plans to replace a bridge that borders town lines in Milan, Red Hook and Rhinebeck. The bridge which crosses the Sawkill Creek is located on Route 199 between Rock City Road and the junction for Route 308, right near the giant fork (yes there is an actual fork) in the road.

The project is expected to start April 7th and plans are to have the work finished by mid-August. The closure of the bridge will mean a hefty detour for commuters, 12-miles spanning through Red Hook and Rhinebeck. A public information meeting on the project is scheduled for March 18th, 10am at the Milan Town Hall.

The Route 199 project is apart of a 23.9 million dollar state funded project with plans to replace six bridges in Dutchess and Columbia counties this year. Three additional bridges in Dutchess county are still on schedule for replacement, two over Sprout creek in the towns of Union Vale, Wappinger and East Fishkill and another over Jackson Creek in Union Vale.
