This may be the best combination since chocolate and peanut butter.

After a fire destroyed a local shopping plaza last winter, construction has been completed and new tenants are finally ready to move in. The combination of businesses, however, may raise a few eyebrows.

The plaza sits on Route 28 in Ulster County and used to be the home of Resort Ridge Pizza. The Woodstock Times reports that it was a barbecue restaurant at the end of the plaza that caught on fire, driving out the tenants while damage was being repaired.

Now that construction is complete a daycare and a microbrewery are moving in. They'll be joined by Resort Ridge Pizza, which will be returning to the plaza, as well as a new Asian restaurant.

While some may find humor in offering daycare services right next to a brewery, the owner of Woodland Playhouse is excited about the new space. She says that there are children on a waiting list for her current daycare business and moving to the larger space will allow her to accommodate more clients.

The Phoenicia Plaza was zoned for commercial use only, so a special variance was applied for and granted by the local zoning board, making the space legal for school use. The Ulster County Department of Children and Family Services still has to grant approval for the expansion. Once that happens Woodland Playhouse is planning to open up by spring.

As for the microbrewery, that's expected to open up at the end of the plaza. If all goes according to plan can we suggest an expansion of daycare hours? Evening and weekend services with hourly rates might be a savvy business move. Offering parents a night out and babysitting at the same location sounds like a potential goldmine.
