SUNY New Paltz University Police have confirmed that a student was stabbed in downtown New Paltz early Saturday morning.

Chief of Police David Dugatkin says the SUNY New Paltz student was stabbed during an altercation at Cabaloosa, a popular bar frequented by students. This morning college officials have been assisting with the investigation.

The assault reportedly happened around 1:50am on Saturday. The victim was discovered when the New Paltz Police Department responded to "a large fight" at Cabaloosa’s bar in the Village of New Paltz.

The student was given first aid by officers before being transported to the hospital by Mobile Life.

There is currently no update on the victim's condition and police are asking  anyone with information to contact them at (845) 255-1323. Police say all calls will be kept confidential.
