The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that the first case of Ebola has been diagnosed on US soil. Offcials from the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas said that an unamed patient had been tested Monday for Ebola, and was currently in 'strict isolation'. Over three thousand people have died in West Africa from the deadly disease in the worst outbreak of the virus in recorded history. Americans Nancy Writebol and Kent Brantly contracted the virus while working over in Liberia over the summer. Both were brought back to the US for treatment.

A man in Dallas, who is not a health care worker, has tested positive for the virus, the agency says. The man flew to the U.S. from Liberia, NPR has learned, and wasn't sick on the flight; he later went to a hospital for the treatment of possible Ebola symptoms. He was admitted into isolation on Sunday at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
