A Montana boy who was startled from being awakened in the middle of the night, shot through his bedroom window, killing his friend who had been knocking and throwing pebbles at the window. 

Police found the 15-year old with a gunshot wound to the head, he later died at the hospital. The victim was identified as Mackeon Schulte,  as reported by ABC.

The victim and another boy were spending the night together and then went to their friend's house around 2:30 a.m. They threw pebbles and knocked on the window, in an attempt to wake their friend.

When their friend woke, he was startled by the noise and saw faces in the window, and didn't know who they were and was scared. He grabbed a gun that was in the room, and fired a shot through the window hitting Schulte in the head. The other boy who was outside, was not hurt.

Authorities are meeting with prosecutors to determine how to proceed and whether to rule the death a homicide. the victim's family will also meet with authorities before a decision is made on whether to file charges.

The names of the shooter, and unharmed boy are not being released, as they are juveniles and no arrests have been made.
