A blood emergency has been declared by the New York Blood Center, as the winter storm forecast cost them donations, according to a report from the Poughkeepsie Journal

There were numerous blood drives that had to be canceled due to the winter storm that never really was, and blood supplies are low. Blood supply levels are down more than 3,000 pints of blood from there they should be.

The center usually receives roughly 2,000 donations per day, but on the day that the Hudson Valley was "supposed" to have a record winter storm, the center only received 200.

"In the next few days, we don't anticipate enough new donations", according to the executive director of the Blood Center, Andrea Cefarelli. The Blood Center keeps a three day supply of blood for the 200 hospitals they serve, and not having enough donations may compromise keeping that three day supply on hand.
