Following one arrest, police are warning the public of “Porch Pirates,” in the Hudson Valley this holiday season.

On Friday around 8:40 a.m., Kingston police arrested 41-year-old Nyamekye S. Hall of Kingston for petit larceny.

On Dec. 1, a Kingston resident told police that a delivered package was not on a porch when the resident returned home. The resident’s security camera recorded the package being delivered and later removed by an unknown man.

The resident showed the video to neighbors and one person believed the suspect was Hall. Hall was later arrested. Most of the items in the package were returned to the owner, police say.

According to Kingston police, a "porch pirate" is a person that steals packages off a customer’s porch or front door.

To avoid "porch pirates," police suggest having items delivered to a nearby post office, your office, or when someone will be home to receive the package.
