Bank warns about phone scammers.

M&T Bank is warning customers to not provide private information over the phone, as several people have reported that individuals pretending to be representatives called asking for their account information.

M&T Bank became aware that scammers had been calling customers, and they immediately contacted the police, as reported by The Record Online.

Julia Shanahan, assistant vice president of corporate communications, said:

“We would never call customers requesting personal information. Should customers receive a suspicious call or have a question or concern, they should contact M&T directly by calling 1-800-724-2440."

According to the bank, unless a customer initiates the call, or they are completing an application, they will never ask for personal information such as: social security number, credit or debt car numbers, or mother's maiden name.
