Scarlett Johansson Is the Highest-Grossing Actor of 2016
Near the end of every year, Forbes releases their rankings of the top actors in Hollywood based on their box-office value and earnings (along with a list of the most overpaid actors, which is always interesting). This year, Scarlett Johansson tops the list of the highest-grossing actors in Hollywood, followed closely by Marvel co-stars Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., who tied for second place. What makes Johansson’s ranking even more notable, however, is her earnings — while RDJr. placed ninth on this year’s list of the highest-paid actors with $33 million, Johansson ranked third on the actress list with $25 million.
Carrie Fisher’s Obituary Request Was Typically Witty and Wonderful
Today we mourn the loss of Carrie Fisher: Iconic actor, talented author, brilliant script doctor and, most of all, an incomparable force to be reckoned with. There are so many great adjectives you could use to describe Fisher: Uncompromising, unapologetic, fierce, witty, relatable, real, honest. She took all of those qualities and put them to work in her books — from memoirs to novels, Fisher had a knack for telling poignant and painful stories with wit and wisdom. Writing a worthy obituary for one of the best and boldest women on this planet or any other is surely an impossible task…so it’s a good thing that the perfect obit basically already exists, and unsurprisingly, Fisher came up with it herself.
New HBO NOW Releases: December 2016
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas — on HBO NOW, that is. This December, the network is gifting subscribers with several great new additions, including a few of this year’s most enjoyable films. So whether you missed Hail, Caesar! and Midnight Special in theaters, or you’ve been dying to give them another watch, HBO NOW’s upcoming slate has you covered — and then some.
What’s Expiring From Netflix Instant: December 2016
Netflix may be giving us Captain America: Civil War on Christmas (and many more great additions next month), but there are also several titles expiring from the service in December, including — gasp — every season of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Okay, you might not be all that concerned about Kevin Sorbo’s biceps, but chances are there’s at least one or two things on this list of expiring movies and TV shows that you’ll probably want to watch before they leave Netflix next month.
New Netflix Instant Releases: December 2016
As a special gift to you this holiday season, Netflix is bringing Captain America: Civil War to Instant (on Christmas, no less), allowing you to stream and repeat to your heart’s desire. That’s not all, of course, as the streaming service is adding several new and classic titles in December, including Netflix Originals like Fuller House Season 2, the first season of the Guillermo del Toro-produced animated series Trollhunters, and the young Barack Obama-goes-to-college movie Barry (the trailer for that one just dropped this morning).
New Amazon Prime Instant Video Releases: November 2016
Amazon is giving you plenty of things to be thankful for in November, adding dozens of new film and television titles to their streaming library — would it be too much to ask for an add-on program that takes the agony out of deciding what to watch, though? For instance, it’s a heavy first world burden to choose between the first season of AMC’s The Night Manager and binge-watching all of the Rocky movies (yes, even Creed). Before you know it, you’ve already wasted half of your Saturday browsing before you end up rewatching The Addams Family for the billionth time.
Lucasfilm Files Lawsuit Against Unauthorized Lightsaber Academy
The force is very strong with Disney and Lucasfilm’s legal department — or at least one would assume, which is why it’s probably not a good idea to infringe on their trademarked properties, especially Star Wars. But that’s exactly what one enterprising business owner did when he started the Lightsaber Academy, which is now the target of a lawsuit filed by Lucasfilm late last week.
Warwick Davis Also Has a Role in ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’
Warwick Davis has been with the Star Wars franchise since Return of the Jedi, when he made his big screen debut as Wicket the Ewok. Since then, he’s had non-Ewok roles in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, The Force Awakens and the upcoming anthology film Rogue One — in which he plays the new Space Monkey character that’s already becoming a bit of a fan favorite. It looks like Davis isn’t leaving the galaxy far, far away anytime soon, as the actor himself has confirmed that he’ll also appear in Episode VIII.
Daniel Craig Bonds With Adam Driver in First ‘Logan Lucky’ Set Photos
The name is Bond…Bail Bond. At least that seems to be the case in these new photos from the set of Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, which features a nearly unrecognizable Daniel Craig alongside a very recognizable Adam Driver. Both actors are sporting prison stripes in the pics, which also offer a glimpse at Riley Keough’s character. In addition to the set photos, a new report reveals that Sebastian Stan has joined the cast of what’s been described as a “hillbilly heist” movie.
Mark Hamill and His Beard Will Probably Return in ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’
It’s been an interesting couple of weeks for actors and their beards. Last week, Hugh Jackman shaved off his famous Wolverine facial hair for the very last time (sniffle), and now that filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII is complete, Mark Hamill is saying goodbye to his Luke Skywalker beard — but don’t worry, he’ll probably be back (beard and all) for Episode IX.
