An inmate died, and two officers were injured in an attack that happened at Fishkill Correctional Facility.

James Miller, spokesperson for the New York State Corrections Officers PBA said, as reported by The Poughkeepsie Journal:

It took several officers to restrain him after the assault. The inmate died but it's unclear what the cause is and when he actually died. Two corrections officers were treated at a local hospital and released. I don't have the extent of their injuries yet.

The prisoner Samuel Harrell, 30, was serving time for third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

The investigation is being handled by the New York State police.

This is the second case of a prisoner dying following a scuffle, in the past couple of weeks.

On April 13, inmate Karl Taylor died at Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg. Taylor, a rapist died after he attacked staff. His cause of death was not released, or if the assault contributed to it, as reported by The Daily Freeman.
