Why would someone try to wreck their own home? Especially when you don't even tell the person who's the legal owner?

According to the Times Herald Record, police have charged a Middletown man with demolishing the house he was renting. Middletown Police say that 48 year old James Rhein used an excavator from a local construction company to knock down the 840-square-foot home at 11 Woodland Avenue. When asked why he did it, Rhein simply said because it was dilapidated and needed to come down. One big problem...the unknowing legal owner is his wife. Rhein doesn't seem to be too worried however.

But now she's over it. We're good. I'm a good husband, what can I tell you?

According to NBC NEW York

The foundation of his Middletown home was crumbling from years of disrepair, 48-year-old James Rhein said Tuesday afternoon, and he tried to get a permit to demolish it himself Monday but couldn't because the office he needed to visit were closed due to the federal holiday.

Rhein was arraigned in Middletown City Court and released after posting $300 bail
