An appeals court affirmed a 2013 conviction of an Ulster County man linked to a number of burglaries.

On Thursday, the Appellate Division Third Department unanimously affirmed the November 15, 2013 conviction of Thomas M. Gasparro.

Gasparro previously plead guilty to two counts of 2nd-degree burglary and waived his rights to appeal. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison and 5 years post-release supervision to run concurrently with a sentence on a violation of probation in Dutchess County.

Gasparro’s conviction stems from a series of residential burglaries in Milton in June of 2012. During his spree, he caused damage to each home and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, officials say.

Gasparro was linked to the home invasions through receipts from pawn shops in Dutchess County.

On appeal, Gasparro challenged the legitimacy of the waiver of appeal and argued that his guilty plea was not knowingly, voluntarily, and intelligently entered. He also argued that the sentence imposed was harsh and excessive.
