A local humane society that houses 50 dogs and more than 100 cats has failed it's inspection for the second time in months. Time Warner Cable News reports the Port Jervis Humane Society was informed that they need renovations to their shelter if they wish to continue operating properly. Their first priority is to fix the dog kennel which is a safety concern for the dogs and staff members that handle them.

According to a statement from the Department of Agriculture:

Both inspections were unsatisfactory. Among the issues we found over the course of these inspections were inadequate space for a large dog, the need for runs to be resurfaced, improper record keeping, and concerns about proper restraint methods. We expect to re-inspect this facility very soon.
A spokesperson for the at-capacity shelter told Time Warner Cable that it all comes down to money. While they do receive support from surrounding towns, it's just not enough to finance the needed improvements. Those wishing to make a donation to help the shelter stay afloat can visit The Port Jervis Humane Society online.
