A hellish new Android malware has the ability to spy on mobile devices, even when the device is powered down, as reported by Fox 8.

It can make phone calls and take photos while the device is shut down. The malware hacks the shutting down process. You will hit the power button and see the shut down animation, then the screen goes black, but the device remains on.

With this malware, the device is required to be rooted and during this state, it can make calls and take photos. It also has the capability to send messages to a third party, and record calls.

This Android malware threat infects Android versions under 5.0. There has been 10,000 devices infected so far, but most of them were in China.

The latest AVG products can detect this treat, but the company is urging people to take the battery out of their phone to ensure the device is off.
