Our yearly WPDH Thanksgiving tradition continues as we broadcast the Arlo Guthrie classic, "Alice's Restaurant" at Noon and 6pm this Thanksgiving.

"Alice's Restaurant Massacree" is the official title of the song, released on Arlo's 1967 album Alice's Restaurant. The song is one of Guthrie's most popular and based on a true story that inspired a 1969 movie of the same name. The Alice in the song was a real restaurant-owner named Alice M. Brock, who in 1964 used $2,000 supplied by her mother to purchase an old church in Massachusetts where Alice and her husband Ray would live. The Thanksgiving dinners were actually held there, instead of the restaurant in the song, which came years later.  Arlo Guthrie stated that the last part of the song was intended for the listener to sing along, and inspire them to resist the draft and end the war.

Here's Arlo performing the song live in 2005:
