Alice Cooper Can’t Wait For Tour With Motley Crue

A busy year for Alice Cooper, with a big-screen documentary and talk of a covers album, is about to get busier still with his forthcoming tour alongside Motley Crue. Cooper says he’s ready for the challenge.

“I’ve never felt better in my life,” Cooper tells the Hollywood Reporter. “I’m getting ready to do 72 shows with Motley Crue, and I guarantee you, at the end of each show, I will be flying. Physically, mentally, spiritually, on every level … I’m in top shape right now.”

At 66, he’s not slowing down before an inevitable retirement. Heck, Cooper might be speeding up. “The R-word is not in my vocabulary,” he confirms. “I won’t be retired.”

His tour with Motley Crue, which kicks off on July 2, features as a highlight a stop at Summerfest 2014 in Milwaukee. Between then and now, the indefatigable Cooper will squeeze in several solo dates, and appear with Aerosmith on June 4 in Norway.

That follows a string of high-profile events surrounding the new documentary ‘Super Duper Alice Cooper,’ including April’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere, a Grammy Museum screening and Q&A, and then the film’s theatrical release. ‘Super Duper’ will be available for home purchasing in June.

As for that planned album of cover songs, Cooper says its a tribute to the Hollywood Vampires, a group of hard-partying musical friends that included Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon and others. The album will include a Nilsson cover, possibly ‘One,’ though Cooper hasn’t confirmed that.

Facing the reality that those two former Vampires companions have joined early heroes like Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix in rock’s great hereafter, Cooper says he’s lucky. To survive “was pretty amazing. God had a different plan for me. I came close. Definitely came close.”
