It's official: Alex Rodriguez is retiring. Fans will still have plenty of chances to see the Yankees designated hitter however, as the retirement won't come till after the 2017 season.

AROD still has two years remaining on his 10-year, $275 million contract.

Rodriguez returned to the Yankees' lineup in 2015 after serving a season-long suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, hitting 33 home runs and driving in 88 RBIs.

Rodriguez will enter 2016 with 687 career home runs, 3,070 hits and 2,055 RBIs. He needs just 28 home runs to pass Babe Ruth for third on the all-time list. He needs 76 more to pass Barry Bonds for number one.

He'll turn 41 on July 27.

It's been a lot of fun. It has been very challenging at times, but it has been an incredible learning experience. I would say that the two years that I've probably enjoyed the most was my first when I was 19 and wont the batting title with [Ken] Griffey and last year. The contrast of those two, at 40 and 18 or 19. It is hard to believe.
