Gary Sinise is in the Hudson Valley today. Keep your eyes open for the "Forest Gump" actor as he prepares for a special event this evening.

As we reported in September, Gary Sinise has been named as the recipient of this year's Thayer Award. The award is given to civilians who promote the attributes that are in the military's motto of “Duty, Honor, Country" by their example and service. Gary Sinise has worked closely with the USO and many disabled veterans groups. His musical group, the Lieutenant Dan Band, performs for many charities and non-profit organizations.

Time Warner Cable News reports that Sinise will receive the Thayer Award tonight during a ceremony at West Point. The award, given out since 1958, is only available to non-West Point graduates. While active-duty and retired servicemen are eligible for the honor, it can also be given to people outside of government organizations who positively contribute to the military. Last year's recipient was Condoleezza Rice. Colin Powel, George W. Bush, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Neil Armstrong, Bob Hope and Ronald Regan have all been recipients of the prestigious annual award.
