UPDATE 8:09am: Police are reporting that Route 9W has been reopened. Expect lingering delays throughout the morning.

From earlier:

Drivers should be prepared for some major backups on Monday morning as an accident has closed down Route 9W.

A car crash has closed down a section of Route 9W in Orange County. The accident happened between Chestnut Lane and Fostertown Road in Newburgh early Monday.

Authorities are expecting the road to remain closed for at least two hours, reaching into the heavy morning commute.

Traffic has already started backing up to Route 84.

Because Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, schools are closed as well as some local businesses. While school buses won't be a concern, those hoping to take advantage of the light traffic will be in for a longer than usual drive going north from Newburgh or heading south from Ulster County.
