The Niagara University women's basketball team had been stuck in the NYS Thruway for over a day before being rescued early Wednesday morning. Head Coach Kendra Faustin said that the team was returning home after a Monday night game in Pittsburgh, when their bus got stuck in the snow storm on the Thruway, about 2 miles from the Lackawanna exit.

Rescuers arrived in plows and were able to get the players out. NY State police and Niagara County sheriff's deputies gave the team food and drinks during the ordeal, WKBW in Buffalo reported.

The western part of New York continues to be hammered by an early season lake effect snow storm that's dumped over 6 feet of snow in some areas.
