It was quite a Memorial Day weekend for 97 year old WW2 veteran John Ferreri. The Mamaroneck senior was heading out to see family in Stamford, Connecticut, when he got lost in Yonkers. Ferreri attempted to drive back home but instead ended up at the end of Interstate 90 near the Massachusetts border. Thruway Authority Toll Supervisor Mark Taylor was nearing the end of his shift that evening at the Canaan toll booth. All of a sudden, a worried and disoriented Ferreri arrived at the toll and handed Taylor his cell phone. On the other line was Ferreri's son, John Jr who pleaded with Taylor not to let his father drive down the sometimes dangerous Taconic. Taylor then made a decision, and decided to drive John Sr, himself, to meet up with his son at the Selkirk toll plaza near Albany. While Taylor's shift was coming to end, and this was about half an hour away from his own home in Chatham, he felt it was the right thing to do to help the lost senior citizen.

It was certainly a thoughtful move on the toll supervisor's part, as this story had a happy ending as Ferreri Sr was reunited with his son and family. John Jr praised Taylor and said this was the first time his father had ever shown any signs of dementia. Still, he knew it was time to permanently take away his dad's keys to avoid such further incidents.
