A 5K is coming to the Hudson Valley to help support local children with autism.

The Crunch Fitness 5K fundraiser for the Anderson Center for Autism is scheduled for Sunday April 30.

The scenic run starts in front of Crunch Poughkeepsie on Neptune Road and runs through the Crown Heights neighborhood. There are no major hills and much of the course is tree-lined.

“Behind the club there is a nice development,” Tom Van Pelt of Crunch Fitness told Hudson Valley Post. “Kind of rolling hills through a residential area. There’s an elementary school back there and a ball-field. There’s a lot of good Hudson Valley scenery”

The event also includes a pre-race warm-up with the trainers of Crunch Fitness and an “after-party” Zumba class.

In honor of National Autism Awareness all the proceeds from the Crunch Fitness 5K will be donated to the Anderson Center for Autism. Located in Dutchess County the Anderson Center for Autism is a residential school for 124 students ranging in age from six to 21 who have autism.

“We feel it’s a great cause. It’s something that needs awareness,” Van Pelt said.

The race starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday April 30 at Crunch Fitness in Poughkeepsie. You can register online until April 27. Registration on race day begins at 7 a.m.

The first 100 registrants receive a race t-shirt and age group medals will be given to top finishers.
