Spring is supposed to be everyone's favorite time of year, but Hudson Valley residents know that there are a few annoying things that can make this season simply unbearable.

Of course, there are plenty of things to get excited about when Spring rolls around in our area. Firing up the barbecue for the first time, hitting the Walkway over the Hudson again and finally being able to get the backyard garden up and running are all things to look forward to. But if you live in the Hudson Valley, these five things can make all of the magic of Spring quickly disappear:

Allergies
The Hudson Valley is one of the worst spots in the entire world when it comes to seasonal allergies. Springtime is especially brutal. Because we live in such a fertile area, flower and tree pollen are more potent here than anywhere else. Transplants to the area who've never had any allergy symptoms before say they can't stop sneezing once April rolls around.

Waiting for the ice cream stand to open
The weather is warm, it's bright and sunny at 7pm and you're ready for cone with some rainbow sprinkles. The only problem? Your local ice cream stand is a ghost town. Most of our favorite ice cream places don't open up until just before Memorial Day. Until then, having to patiently wait for our first hot fudge sundae of the year can be the longest and most painful weeks of the year.

Potholes
After a winter of freezing temperatures, salt trucks and plows, those Hudson Valley roads can wind up looking like a war zone. Monster potholes seem to pop up out of nowhere, spilling commuters' cups of coffee and claiming countless car tires. The solution? Back up traffic for miles so crews can fix them all month long.

Old Lady Tours and City-iots
Hudson Valley tourism is a great thing for the economy, but that's hard to remember when you're stuck behind one of the hundreds of buses that begin to flood our area this month. Huge groups of slow-walking tourists will start to descend on those historic landmarks, mansions and wineries all over the Hudson Valley. We sure are lucky to have a ton of hiking trails and natural wonders here, but not so lucky when those out of shape city-iots are blocking our way.

Ticks
How many people do you know that have had Lyme Disease? Everyone? Me too. Yeah, the ticks in our area are out of control. Luckily, we've found a few easy ways to control them in our own yards. The unlucky part? Those nasty ticks are also living everywhere else in the Hudson Valley. Wearing long pants and spraying Deep Woods Off all over our bodies isn't a fun way to spend Springtime, but it sure beats getting sick.

Of course, these things aren't nearly bad enough for us to start praying for an endless Hudson Valley Winter. We're certainly happy that Spring is finally here, and will gladly put up with a few annoyances if it means we can crack some beers on the deck and start going to shows at Bethel Woods again. But we want to know what you think.
