On this day (Aug. 27, 1990) we lost blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan. Vaughan died in a helicopter crash at the age of 35. He had just performed a concert with Eric Clapton at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin.

In his short life, Vaughan was widely considered one of the most influential guitarists in the history of blues music and was important to the blues revival in the 1980's.

Rolling Stone magazine ranked Vaughan the 12th greatest guitarist of all time and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Remembering the great Stevie Ray Vaughan today on the 25th anniversary of his tragic passing.
