During the Super Bowl weekend state and local police were on the lookout for intoxicated drivers. In Dutchess County 21 were arrested for impaired driving while 3 others were arrested on other charges.

During the Super Bowl Crackdown period of February 5, 2016 thru February 8, 2016 members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Town of Hyde Park Police Department, Town of East Fishkill Police Department, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department, Village of Red Hook Police Department & Village of Millerton Police Department conducted Impaired Driving details consisting of Saturation Patrols throughout the county. This joint effort led to the 24 arrests.

“The coordinated efforts of Law Enforcement throughout the Super Bowl weekend have been effective in reducing the impact of impaired driving by identifying drivers that did not make a winning decision,” Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William C. Johnson said. “Those who were apprehended will experience game changing consequences because an impaired driving conviction produces no winners.”

For the 3rd year in a row the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program was awarded a “Crackdown Enforcement Grant” for the 2015-2016 Crackdown periods from the Governors Traffic Safety Committee and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation.
