Original Alice Cooper band guitarist Glen Buxton died on this day 20 years ago (Oct. 19, 1997).

Glen Buxton  was lead guitarist for the original Alice Cooper band which formed out of Phoenix, Arizona in 1964. The band rose to fame in 1971 with the albums Pretties for You and Easy Action, along with the hit “I’m Eighteen” from the album Love It to Death. They followed that up with the albums Killer, School’s Out, and Billion Dollar Babies. The Original Alice Cooper Group’s final studio album would be 1974’s Muscle of Love. A successful solo career for Alice Cooper would begin in 1975 with concept album Welcome to My Nightmare. The original Alice Cooper Group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.

Glen Buxton ranked number 90 on Rolling Stone's 2003 list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. He passed away at the age of 49 in 1997 of complications from pneumonia (just a few weeks before his 50th birthday). Crank up some old school Alice Cooper in Glen's honor today!
