A 2-year old boy was hit and killed by a train in southern Kentucky.

The incident happened at 9:30 am, Monday. The conductor of the train blew the horn, and tried to stop but could not avoid hitting the child, according to police.

The boy, Trayton Joiner was unattended at the time. According to police, they had to go door to door to locate his parents. when they were found, they were unaware that the boy had left the house. The boy's mother was taken to the hospital where her son was being treated.

How do you not know where your 2-year old is?

According to police, a dog was also struck by the train, but it is unknown whether or not the dog belonged to the boy or was a stray. The dog was injured and brought to an animal clinic. They believe the boy might have been following the dog.

This is such a sad story, and it could have been completely prevented, if the boy had proper supervision.
