UPDATE:

More information has been made available about a carbon monoxide leak in a home on Lander street in Newburgh, that killed two people and sent 10 more to the hospital.

The house has now been condemned.

Fire officials said that there were no carbon monoxide detectors in the four-story home, which should have had at least 4 detectors, as reported by TWC News.

The two people that died from carbon monoxide poisoning, lived in the basement apartment. The cause of the poisoning was likely a clogged chimney that has not been cleaned out.

Newburgh Fire Chief, Terry Ahlers said:

Our crews got there within a few minutes on an investigation.  They realized it wasn't smoke, it was steam.  The carbon monoxide meters that we carry when into a full alarm right off as soon as they entered the building
